In this crazy world, we live in today and now more than ever people are feeling the tug to be a good human. The millennials may get a lot of flack about how they act and think but I believe they are also the reason why so many are starting to focus on making a positive social impact. With more and more voices rising up about the issues of the world and how we must stop ignoring and start fixing these problems, people are responding. In a good way too!
What Is Social Impact?
It is the effect an organization’s actions have on the well-being of the community.
How Is It Measured?
By a process of understanding how much social change occurred and can be attributed to an organization’s actives. Companies use an impact statement and clear impact-driven stakeholder strategy to keep track.
What Types Of Social Impact Are There?
The UN has put together 17 sustainable development goals. ( insert UN snapshot- source United Nations)
According to the 2019 Porter Novelli/Cone Purpose Biometrics Study – 72% of Americans say they feel it is more important than ever that the companies they buy from reflect their values. Nearly nine-in10 consumers say they’re likely to purchase from purpose-driven companies.
There are many other reports out there just like this one. This alone should get you whipping out a pen and drawing up an impact statement for your company immediately. But if you still need some more convincing here we go…
1. Buyers will spend more for positive social impact
People feel better spending money on things they know will make a positive impact. They may even be willing to spend more. I personally will pay 5.00 for my chocolate bars knowing they are NOT being made by child slaves and I always look for the fair trade symbol.
2. Your business could get free money
For companies focused on making a social impact, there are grants galore. Just out this website for more info: https:// globalpeacecareers.com/magazine/40-social-enterprise-grants-for-your-consideration/
3. Be a nice human
Studies have shown that those who are generous or focused on making a social impact for the good are happier. Do your part in helping others get their warm- glow on. Developed by James Andreoni, Warm-glow is a sense of joy and happiness when others have “done their part” to help others. You can’t go wrong with implementing social impact into your business model. It’s a win-win solution to increasing your bottom line. You get more business and the consumer feels better about themselves and how they chose to spend their money.
